Fun things to do this September

Here’s a roundup of some of the best things on this September in Buckinghamshire and nearby.

  1. PYO apples, pears, plums, raspberries and blackberries at Home Cottage Farm in Iver, throughout September. They grow 15 different types of apples on the farm! Check their website to see what’s available at different points in September.
  2. Have fun at September Saturdays by the Canal in Aylesbury. 4th – 25th September. The popular Waterside Festival isn’t running this year so in it’s place festival goers are invited to enjoy the best-loved festival activities, spread out across the Saturdays of September. Activities include boat trips, live music, floating markets, competitions on the water and shows.
  3. See Hairspray the Musical at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. 8th – 11th September. This  this smash hit musical-comedy has broken box office records in the West End and Broadway and is currently on tour around the UK.
  4. Hunt for the ‘Beasts of the Night’ on a family nature safari at Where Inspiration Blooms in Chesham. 10th September. The evening nature safari is suitable for the whole family.  As the sunlight fades you will set off with bat detectors for a twilight walk searching for bats, owls and deer and listen to the sounds of the night and learn all about local nocturnal creatures.
  5. Watch Horrible Histories live on stat the Elgiva Theatre in Chesham. 10th – 11th September. Watch the acclaimed production of Gorgeous Georgians and Vile Victorians!
  6. Family Funfair on Holmer Green Common from 10th – 12th September. Open from 5pm on Friday and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. HP15 6TB.
  7. Watch Marlow Carnival in Higginson Park on 11th September. There will be three stages of music and entertainment and a large selection of food & drink. There for be a children’s magic show on at 11.30, 1.15 and 2.45 and the Marlow Round Table are running a duck race at 4pm (£2 per duck).
  8. Find your way to the middle of Farmer Paul’s Maize Maze and PYO sweetcorn. From 11th September. Initially open just for the Maize Maze and the sweetcorn isn’t ripe yet. There will be plenty of photo opportunities with their famous straw bale painting, scarecrow, peep board, giant chair and lots more. Plus the horseshow café for refreshments. They are also planning some evenings for you to experience the trail in the dark with torches!
  9. Head down to the Wycombe Town Fayre on 12th September. This is a brand new event with everything from dancing and live music to chair Olympics.
  10. Explore the beautiful gardens at Lindengate in Wendover on 12th September. Lindengate Mental Health Charity is located at a stunning five-acre site in Buckinghamshire. The garden lends itself to supporting people in recovering from a range of common mental health needs. It’s open to the public from 10am-12.3opm as part of the National Garden Scheme.
  11. Dance, laugh and have fun at Henley Festival 15th – 19th September. There are loads of amazing music and comedy acts performing at Henley Festival this year and on Sunday they have a special family day. On the family day there are loads of fun kids performances, face painting, yoga, balloon modelling and more.
  12. Party at Pub in the Park in Marlow. 16th – 19th September. Tuck into tasty dishes from The Hand & Flowers, The Coach, Atul Kochhar Restaurants, The Mariner’s by Paul Ainsworth, All’s Well and many more! Then party with your mates to live performances from Craig David, Jack Savoretti, Heather Small, Basement Jaxx DJ set, Beverley Knight, The Lightning Seeds, Gabrielle and more.
  13. Head down to Downley Day for a fun filled afternoon on 18th September. There will be stalls, live music, a BBQ, fun fair, dog show, crafts, acrobats and more.
  14. Free entry to Stowe, National Trust on 19th September. You will also have the chance to explore the Gothic Temple which is normally closed to the public and have a tour of the state rooms.
  15. Emergency services day at Bucks Rail Centre on 26th September. Meet the emergency service personnel and their vehicles. There will also be the chance to meet lots of local community groups, clubs, services and charities at the event, plus all the usual fun of a steaming day.
  16. Party at Sunshine Family Festival in Reading on 26th September. Dance along to tribute acts from Little Mix, Spice Girls, Justin Bieber and Dua Lipa and meet the Paw Patrol and Hey Duggee.
