As parents we don’t get the chance to go out for fancy meals very often, so lockdown forcing a lot of local restaurants to offer takeaway is actually a real bonus for us! Whilst it’s obviously not a great time for the restaurants, now is the perfect time to support them and take full advantage of the amazing takeaway food that’s temporarily on offer. Here’s my guide to the best takeaway food on offer this lockdown.
We’re lucky to be surrounded by so many incredible restaurants, so here are some recommendations by me and by you! I asked for your favourites on my Instagram page and you delivered.

Lata Lata
Small plates, local ingredients & seasonal dishes.
Tried and tested : During the last lockdown we had takeaway from Lata Lata as a birthday meal for my husband. We love their food, in fact we were back there for a ‘final supper’ on Wednesday before this latest lockdown. We did have a problem with one of the dishes and a bit of a delay when collecting but they more than made up for this and compensated us with a voucher. This was really early on in lockdown 1 so were new to the whole takeaway thing, they’ve had lots of practice since then! You can’t beat their arancini and they transfer really well as a takeaway dish!

Fego
Serving a wide range of British favourites for brunch, lunch and dinner.
Tried and tested: I haven’t had their food as takeaway but I have eaten here several times and the food is always great. There’s often a queue outside waiting for a table which has to be a good sign! The Ranchero for breakfast is amazing and available on their takeaway menu.

Burgers
No.5 London End
Pop up burger shop on Friday and Saturday nights.
Tried and tested: These burgers are INCREDIBLE!! You can choose from a cheeseburger, buttermilk chicken burger and halloumi burger and sometimes their special truffle burger makes an appearance on the menu. I’ve tried the buttermilk chicken burger and it was insanely good. You have to be quick though, you can order from 10am for same day pick up and they sell out in minutes so set your alarm!

Street Food
Baste
Serving chicken wings, burgers and a range of sides.
Tried and tested: We were lucky enough to make it to their pop up at the Crafty Taproom in Marlow before we entered the latest lockdown, so whilst I’ve not tried it as takeaway it’s exactly the same menu on offer. I’d heard a lot of hype about their chicken wings and they absolutely lived up to it. We tried the classic buffalo hot sauce, Korean and Thai wings with the beef dripping fries with truffle and parmesan (I know!) and tater tots. All incredible!

Available: Wednesday to Saturday 5 – 8pm. They run a special Wing Wednesday where you can get 3 portions of wings for £15 and Trial it Thursday where they have a different new flavour of wings each week, as voted by you.

Bokkie
South African street food. Plus they’ve started a collaboration with Macalicious with a whole menu dedicated to mac and cheese and Georgia’s Goodies for brownies. I seriously wish I lived closer to this one so I could try it! They also offer grazing boxes.

Pub Classics
The Jolly Cricketers
Fish and Chips on Friday, Burgers on Saturday and Sunday Roasts on Sunday.
Tried and tested: I can’t vouch for their takeaway as I’ve not had one myself but I have dined at their and had a roast and I can honestly say it’s one of the best beef roasts you’ll have in Bucks!

The Ivy House
Pub classics such as pies, BBQ ribs, fish and chips and burgers. Plus Sunday roasts.
Tried and tested: We ordered Sunday roasts from here at the start of January and they were incredible! We picked them up after a walk in Hodgemoor Woods and they were served hot ready to eat. We had to heat them up slightly when we got home, but only because we live 15 minutes away. We both had the beef which was really tasty and it was served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, parsnips, leeks and cauliflower cheese. The sides were all seriously good!

The Full Moon
Pub classics like burgers, fish and chips and mixed grill are all on the menu as well as Sunday roasts.
Tried and tested: We ordered Sunday roasts from here and they were excellent. We both had the lamb roast which came with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, red and white cabbage, peas, carrots and parsnips with gravy. It’s served hot and ready to eat. We put ours in the microwave for a minute so that it was piping hot which worked fine. They are really close to the alpacas if you fancy combining a walk with picking up your roast.

The Plough
There were several recommendations for the Sunday roasts from here which are a bargain at £10! For the rest of the week they serve pub classics like burgers and fish and chips and do a different theme each week – Italian, Mexican and Spanish.
Tried and tested: We’ve had a takeaway roast from The Plough twice now and wow is it good! Everything on the plate is incredible and it comes with the best veg I think I’ve ever seen on a roast, including dauphinoise potatoes!

Roasted by Jack & Scott
Your Sunday roast is prepared by Michelin trained chefs Jack Blumenthal and Scott Perkins and delivered ready to heat up at home. Whilst I haven’t tried a roast by them (they’ve only launched this week) I did have a roast delivered from Jack Blumenthal during the last lockdown when he teamed up with Cafe Globe in Marlow.

Hawkyns by Atul Kochhar
Pan-Indian 2 AA Rosette restaurant by twice Michelin starred chef Atul Kochar. It looks like their full menu is available as takeaway plus some great set menu options.
Tried and Tested: I’ve not had takeaway from here but I’ve eaten in the restaurant and it is seriously good! For a gourmet Indian feast at home, this is the takeaway for you.

North Indian cuisine influenced by Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan. This is twice Michelin starred Atul Kochhar’s newest restaurant and only opened in July.

Much-loved traditional Indian dishes as well as a selection of modern and creative dishes.
Tried and Tested: Again I’ve not had their takeaway but I’ve eaten in their Beaconsfield restaurant numerous times and always absolutely love their food. If you’re looking for a seriously good Indian then you won’t go wrong here.

Tried and Tested: This was the restaurant we were recommended to try in High Wycombe when we were house hunting and we’ve loved it ever since. The food is seriously good! They stopped doing takeaway recently so it’s great to see it back, even if it is just for lockdown.

Seriously good sushi delivered to you at home. They offer a variety of sushi platters, choose your own combinations or poke bowls.
Tried and Tested: We ordered the SushiVan Top 10 platter a few weeks ago and it was insanely good! We had it between two of us and it was an absolute feast. The salmon was so soft it just melts in your mouth and there were some really great combinations in their sushi rolls. The dynamite roll, closely followed by the soft shell crab uramaki were both our favourites.

Knead Wood Fired Pizza
Ok so this one isn’t just a lockdown takeaway but trust me ordering one of their pizzas will make your lockdown better!!
Tried and Tested: I tried one of their pizzas for the first time during the last lockdown and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had them since. It’s genuinely one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had! The base, the toppings, everything is perfect!

Labelled as Marlow’s best kept secret this is another restaurant that was recommended by several of you. They serve a full Italian menu with pizza, pasta and main courses.

This section is full of fantastic local event catering companies that have adapted and are serving up delicious 3 course meals for you to re-heat at home.
Native Feasts
They offer a globally inspired 3 course set menu, with the menu and theme changing each week.
Tried and Tested: I was very kindly gifted a meal by Native Feasts to try and it well and truly lived up to the hype from friends who have raved about it! The menu was Asian inspired on the week we tried and every course was delicious. Portion sizes were very generous too, we were both absolutely stuffed by the end of the meal. I can’t recommend this enough! So much that we’ve ordered their special New Years Eve menu.

Hibiscus
Offering 3 course supper club menus as well as themed feasting menus. They have recently expanded the menu and there is now a choice of 5 starters, 6 main courses and 5 desserts. Recent feasting menu themes have been Spanish, Mexican and the current one is Greek.
Tried and Tested: I’ve ordered from Hibiscus 3 or 4 times now and the food has always been delicious. It’s really easy to heat up and feels like you’re having a restaurant quality meal at home. I think it’s great value at £20 for 3 courses.

Order fresh and delicious classic meals to heat at home. All their meals are healthy and low in salt and sugar so perfect for eating with your little ones.
Tried and Tested: I was gifted some meals of theirs to try last week and we loved them so much we ordered from them again this week. I would go as far as saying the shepherds pie was the best I’ve ever had!

Cook My Grub
Cook My Grub is a brand new takeaway app which connects independent home chefs with foodies. The app gives you access to fresh, authentic home cooked meals from your friendly neighbourhood chef delivered straight to your doorstep. The chefs could be professionals or new businesses who have undergone allergy awareness and food & hygiene training. They are all council registered and are inspected in the same way as a regular restaurant.
Tried and Tested: I was gifted a meal to review from a chef of my choice and chose an incredibly tasty Indian feast from Mumbai Tadka. The menus available from each chef change every night and are often full of dishes that you’ve probably never tried before. Compared to your normal takeaway the menus from each chef are very limited, but I loved this as it made us try something new! You need to be a bit more organised than a normal takeaway and order at least a day in advance.
Location: It’s currently available in Maidenhead, Windsor, Slough, Marlow and Bourne-End. There are plans to expand further into more towns soon!
